Several programs can be combined to pay for equipment, home changes and care. Apply before any work starts: most programs won't pay for work done before approval.

The order to apply
- Get an occupational therapist assessment: most programs ask for one. It's free through Ontario Health atHome for people who qualify (310-2222).
- Apply for the Disability Tax Credit if the person may qualify; it opens several other credits.
- Apply to the Assistive Devices Program and March of Dimes, and to Ontario Renovates if your region offers it. Wait for approval.
- Check workplace or retiree health plans and Veterans Affairs for anything still not covered.
- Do the work, keep every receipt, and claim tax credits on the next return.
